  • Vocational Education and Training Workforce - Research Report. The commission identified a number of areas where the VET sector and its workforce could operate more effectively. These include more trainers with industry skills in demand, improving managerial and leadership skills and making greater use of information and communications technologies. Recommendations include improvements in the design, delivery and assessment of the main entry level qualification to the sector; better designed and targeted professinal development; and that individual TAFEs be allowed to recruit, pay and manage their staff in ways that meet their business goals.   • Embedding learning from formal training into sustained behavioural change in the workplace. Integrating learning into the workplace is the focus of this paper. Strategies were identified and their effectiveness tested in a pilot training program based in the health industry. Although better income, wealth and health outcomes have been predicted by human capital theory for better educated people, increasingly international and Australian empirical evidence has found a negative relationship between higher education and subjective well-being instead, particularly for developed nations. This study estimates the partial effect of educational achievement on different life satisfactions in Australia and how this differs by age group. Download Paper

  • Employability skills: at a glance. This at a glance looks at developments in employability skills since 2002. It finds that most research has focused around teaching, assessing and reporting on employability skills, where consistency remains a key challenge. There also continues to be a lack of understanding of employability skills among some teachers. Until these issues are addressed, the sector could fall short in providing learners with the skills they need to succeed in their vocations. Download Paper
